The Gay Vegans

30 Years Vegan!

They say if you don’t die and stay vegan, well, you accumulate years being vegan!

So here I am at 60 years old, with 30 of those years being vegan.

I am forever grateful to those who have supported my vegan journey over the years, especially those in the Norfolk, VA area who were around in my first years of veganism. I’ll always remember the vegan potlucks I attended with a bunch of really nice people and delicious food. Having those to go to made a huge difference for a new vegan.

The vegan food choices are night-and-day different from back then, unless I count vegetables and fruits. Those are similar, although the number of them I know, love, and have tried since becoming vegan has increased.

Something that has stayed the same is what we do to animals to turn them into food. The pain, torture, violence, and fear inflicted on animal is as bad as ever, and being vegan still makes a difference.

I became vegan because I didn’t want to participate in harming anyone, any being. I have stayed vegan over the years because of that. Sure, there have been other benefits, like my health and trying amazing foods, but the main force in my veganism is still not wanting to be a part of the cruelty and violence.

Here’s to many more years for this vegan!

Go vegan. Vote. Be kind.

Congratulations (and no, you don’t have to wait until you’re 90 for the next celebration of doing the best thing…)
