The Gay Vegans

Ditch dairy

Cow’s milk was easy to stop drinking.

Even cheese wasn’t difficult.

Ice cream, a little tougher.

Ditching dairy is an important step in becoming vegan, in fact it’s one of the differences between being vegetarian and being vegan. It was easier for me because I went vegan for the animals. Meaning, I went vegan so what I consumed would have as little awful affect on animals as possible.

That what I consumed would not support intense forms of animal cruelty.

Producing dairy products is bad for animals. I won’t go into detail as there has been plenty written and documented about this that a simple Google search will bring to your attention.

If you’re new to being vegan, I assure you that ditching dairy will not be that difficult. These days there are a myriad of plant-based milks, cheeses, and ice creams. There is absolutely something for everyone.

The bonus is that there is no need to support animal cruelty.

More to come on my favorite plant-based products.

Until then, ditch dairy and keep enjoying your journey that does not include cruelty to animals.

  1. (Good grief…why do I think you live in Denver??? Still, give me some tips if you know it.

Hi Glenda! We moved to the LA area almost 8 years ago, but we get back to Denver often. I htink your best bet would be to check out Happy Cow. There are many new options.

I stay in NW Denver when visiting and have loved going to Vital Root. Delsih food, nice neighborhood. And check out the store Feral across the street if you like outdoor stores. They are my fave!

  2. Ok, so I started reading this thinking ditch was an adjective in this context. And I’m like “OMG! Are they getting milk from some foraging thing, like wild ditch plants I don’t know about?” And it took me WAY too long to realize ditch was a VERB.

I’m either an idiot, been a vegan for a long time, or this is a side affect of rural living. Either way, I laughed super hard and had to tell you. PLEASE LAUGH. LOL You do a great job on your socials, btw. I’m coming to Denver for a dog adoption next month (we have a soft spot for dogs in diapers), so if there is any great vegan food we need to hit on the east side of the city, I’d love your recommentations. I also want to try Meati, so I’m hitting a Sprouts.

Looking forward to enjoying your big city for a week!

And keep up the righteous work and good trouble energy!
